Closed Terrarium Care Guide

Welcome to Your Tiny Ecosystem!

A closed terrarium is a self-sustaining environment that requires very little maintenance. With the right light and occasional care, it can thrive for years.

Light

Place in bright, indirect light.

Avoid direct sunlight, which can overheat and damage your plants.

Water

Your terrarium should need very little water.

Only add water if the soil appears dry and there is no condensation on the glass for several days.

If needed, add 1–2 teaspoons of water at a time and wait a few days before adding more.

Condensation

Light condensation in the morning is normal.

Heavy condensation all day: Remove the lid for 2–6 hours, then replace it.

No condensation for several days: Your terrarium may need a small amount of water.

Maintenance

Remove any dead or yellowing leaves.

Trim plants if they begin touching the glass.

Keep the glass clean for the best view.

Troubleshooting

Too much moisture?

Heavy fog or water dripping down the glass means it’s too wet.

Leave the lid off for a few hours until the excess moisture disappears.

Plants look wilted?

The terrarium may be too dry.

Add a small amount of water and monitor over the next few days.

Mold appears?

A small amount of white mold is common in new terrariums.

Remove affected leaves or debris.

Leave the lid off for a few hours to improve airflow. Mold usually disappears as the ecosystem balances.

Plants growing too tall?

Simply trim them back to maintain the look of your terrarium.
